Our Enrichment Offer

Whittingham Primary Academy is committed to providing our pupils with an exciting and enriched curriculum. As part of our offer to pupils, we will be commencing a daily programme of enrichment activities, which will be free to all. This is key to how we work. No child will be excluded from participation as a result of their current financial circumstances.

Now more than ever, developing a thriving enrichment programme is an essential part of promoting employability, academic attainment and teaching young people the skills they need to make good choices. These skills have benefits well beyond the classroom. At Whittingham Primary Academy, we believe in starting early and that a successful enrichment programme will promote the life-skills needed for everyday life, develop “soft skills” that future employers and universities look for, while also giving pupils the opportunity to find out more about their interests and passions.

A tweet from Tim Peake, the British astronaut who lived and worked on board the International Space Station for six months, summed up perfectly the need for both character skills and work experience. He wrote: “Character is important – a CV may get you the interview, but character will get you the job.”

Defining our enrichment programme

We will focus on the three core areas of personal development, leadership and creating ambition.  Through these areas, we aim to develop pupils’ confidence and expose them to a range of activities they may not previously have experienced.

We will draw on the pupils’ interests in defining our programme, as well as making our own suggestions to ensure the breadth of offer. We do not envisage the programme to be static, but rather change as we receive feedback from the pupils.

The current programme will include sports, arts and music and a careers focus please click the link below to see more detail.  As pupils participate in the programme, they will complete a record of their enrichment milestones. This will serve as a source of evidence for their transition programme at the end of their primary phase.
